The Role
We are currently searching for a Manager, Distribution Process Optimization – Safety Pillar, reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Health & Safety. This vacancy is a full-time, permanent opportunity. This role is accountable for the national execution of the Safety Pillar within the Distribution Process Optimization (DPO) framework, ensuring safe, consistent, and efficient operations across all distribution centres and transportation processes. The position provides strategic oversight of standardized, audit‑based occupational health and safety practices, and partners closely with national and local leaders to align programs, processes, and performance outcomes. The role supports continuous improvement across safety standards, fleet and contractor safety, risk management, and incident prevention, while strengthening the effectiveness of the occupational health and safety management system. Through KPI governance, collaboration with Joint Health & Safety Committees, and ongoing process optimization, this role enables a culture of accountability, safety ownership, and sustained operational excellence across Canada.
Location
Our Corporate Office is located in Bolton, ON. This is a field-based role with visits to the office on an as-needed basis. This role will require up to 40% travel across our operating provinces (ON, BC, AB, SK, MB) and therefore a G class driver's license and access to a vehicle is required.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead and own the national strategy and standards for Safety Pillar of the DPO program
- Lead the development/standardization/maintenance of all Safety Pillars related tools and templates
- Train and support Local Pillar Leads with understanding/interpreting what each DPO requirement means for their warehouse and/or delivery operations to achieve and sustain all four levels of audit requirements
- Foster strategic collaboration with other National Pillar Leads (e.g., People, Management, Planning) to ensure holistic, end-to-end process optimization across the DPO framework
- Govern national KPI performance and maturity scorecards. Conduct routine KPI analysis, including TRIR, total accident reports, SIF, and implement corrective actions for underperforming metrics
- Maintain and continuously improve SOPs all safety related processes and implement corrective actions when deviations occur
- Attend weekly support meetings and support the Lean Six Sigma training program, focusing on process adherence and operator autonomy/training
- Work closely with both Sr Manager, H&S and Director H&S / DM to align the DPO Safety Pillar with the overarching OHSMS and shared improvements
- Support the Corporate Health & Safety Team as needed
- Build DPO knowledge in local JHSC members
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned
Who You Are - Your Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Operations Management, Business or related field
- Minimum Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification or equivalent is preferred (if not internal training will be provided)
- Occupational H&S Certification; CRSP/CRST designation is considered a strong asset
Experience
- 10+ years of experience leading an operations team focused on driving Occupational Health & Safety performance, accident investigation, root cause identification and preventative action
- 5+ years of experience managing cross-functional initiatives
- 5+ years of experience on leading a Joint Health & Safety Committee
- Proven experience leading 5S implementation, Kaizen or CI projects with measurable impact on safety, cost or quality
- Experience leading Train the Trainer programs on key areas such as Mobile Handling Equipment and Working at Heights is considered a strong asset
- Proven experience leading Continuous Improvement initiatives in safety or operations for projects exceeding significant budget thresholds
- Experience developing and maintaining H&S Programs, Policies, SOPs and developing standards
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a unionized environment
- Demonstrated experience with SAP or similar systems
- Exposure to strategy deployment and cascading organizational goals into frontline actions
Skills
- Strong understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems that work in supporting warehouse and fleet operations to drive safety performance
- Strong Ability to interpret KPIs trends, conduct gap analysis and develop data-driven action plans
- Familiarity with Contractor Management Programs and High-Risk Work Process management
- Familiarity with digital and manual safety-check processes, defect tracking, and environmental compliance requirements
- Strong communication skills, facilitation skills and storytelling practices required to influence, deliver, and cascade strategic plans
- Skilled in change leadership and capable of creating a sustained culture of Continuous Improvement by engaging with and developing frontline teams to adopt CI mindset
- Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills
- Intermediate/advanced skills in Microsoft 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio, MS Project), Power BI dashboards, and workflow tool and familiarity with SAP
- Strong knowledge of Lean/six sigma tools, root-cause analysis tools and PDCA cycle
- Ability to mentor/train others in structured thinking
- Proven problem-solving creativity and critical thinking skills to solve problems from a variety of approaches
- Comfortable working in dynamic environments, managing ambiguity, and sustaining continuous improvement culture
- Capable of maintaining multiple routines (meetings, audits, action plans) and prioritizing improvement projects
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally between various teams
- Strong attention to detail and high level of organizational skills required
- Demonstrated ability to take work in a fully autonomous environment that requires little to no supervision
- Requires regular travel to distribution centers and operational sites across the country as needed to support kick-offs and final qualification audits for all participating sites
Compensation
