The Role

We are currently searching for a Supervisor, TBS Accounting, reporting to the Senior Manager, Financial Advisory & Reporting.  This is a full-time permanent position.  The Supervisor, TBS Accounting, is accountable for the accuracy of The Beer Store (TBS) GL and timely delivery of financial statements and information, ensuring compliance with company policies and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). This role oversees the financial close process (month end, quarter end and year end) including reviewing and validating journal entries and reconciliations and resolving any issues. The Supervisor, TBS Accounting, leads the preparation of the annual financial statements, including accompanying note disclosures. This role also provides support for annual financial statement audits, internal audit engagements and other operational reviews. As a key member of the Finance team, the Supervisor provides guidance and mentors a team of three Senior Accountants while contributing to key initiatives that shape the future of our Finance function.

Location

Our Corporate Office is located in Bolton, ON. We offer a hybrid work model with visits into the office a minimum of three times per week and on an as-needed basis depending on the role and function.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Oversee financial close process for TBS including coordination with Retail, Logistics and Corporate departments to complete all month end, quarter end and year end close deliverables in accordance with timelines
  • Facilitate and present monthly financial results to finance senior leadership
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and internal controls, in accordance with financial policies and processes
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analyses, resolving issues proactively
  • Analyze and investigate financial variances, providing insights to senior management, shareholders, Retail and Logistics teams
  • Provide guidance to operational teams and financial planning regarding accounting matters
  • Lead preparation of the annual financial statements, including note disclosures and supporting documentation
  • Provide support for annual financial statement audits, internal audit engagements and other operational reviews
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging data and cross-functional collaboration to enhance efficiency
  • Lead and develop a team of three Senior Accountants, fostering engagement, accountability, and professional growth
  • Champion employee performance and development, including coaching, feedback, and formal reviews
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned

Who You Are - Your Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Education

  • Completion of Professional Accounting Designation (CPA)
  • University degree in accounting or finance

Experience

  • 4-7 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Proven experience supervising employees or leading cross-functional projects
  • Previous experience in audit and assurance is considered an asset
  • Experience working with SAP/large ERP systems

Skills

  • Detailed working knowledge of IFRS
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail
  • Results oriented with the ability to work under tight deadlines and manage competing priorities
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills, aptitude to coach and mentor direct reports
  • Excellent levels of communication both verbal and written
  • Ability to concisely summarize and communicate complex issues
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to develop collaborative relationships across the company
  • Advanced Excel skills including the ability to create and manage complex worksheets, pivot tables and macros; strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
